Tuscany is a big place for you to explore especially in its Northern part. It can be a bit overwhelming especially if it’s your first time visiting Tuscany since you will have no idea on which places you will visit there first. Or you may not know any places to visit there at all.

Val de Cecina – This place is referred to as the Valdorcia of Northern Tuscany. It’s an area that is known to only a few Tuscany travelers but it’s the one that has the most breathtaking landscapes, characterized by the rolling hills and small hamlets like the Castelnuovo Val di Cecina and Montecastelli. The Volterra is also in this area, but you have to go a bit farther to the south.
Valdarno – It is located along the river Arno and is a large, diverse area. The best one for this location is in the Pisa area because of the stunning countryside around the hilltop town of San Miniato. Just by looking at it, the town is very beautiful, has a nice town hall, an imposing seminary, and a large Cathedral.
Mugello – This destination is located in the northern part of Florence, somewhere on the Apennines. It is well-recognized by the many medieval pievi, small parish churches residing in the countryside and is dotted by small towns. This place is also popular for Italy’s main speedway known as Autodromo del Mugello.
Florence – This place needs no further introduction. You can also check out Fiesole near Florence because it is a wonderful sight for you to witness. The surrounding area is mostly filled with residential and commercial establishments, so there’s really no need for you to venture into the suburbs.
Prato and Pistoia – This is an industrialized area and is highly populated, but there’s no denying that these 2 cities are remarkable. Pistoia is well-known for their greenhouses while Prato is well-known for their textile industry. This place has a famous zoo and somewhere near it, there’s also a popular destination that you should check out known as Collodi where it’s the hometown of the author of the famous novel, Pinocchio. The Montecatini Terme is a popular spa in town, so if you want to have some moment of relaxation, then you should head out there.
Valle del Serchio – This is located somewhere in the valley that resides along Serchio north of Lucca. At your first glance, you can say that the area is beautiful, with larger towns and small villages along the small bridges, river, stone mills, and very old paper factories.
Abetone – This is known as Tuscany’s second highest mountain and is famous for its ski resort. It resides on the border with Emilia Romagna, somewhere in the province of Pistoia. This is also famous in Italy and is the ideal place to bring your family or friends on a vacation in the snow and experience a holiday in Tuscany.
